Welcome to our website! You are visiting the home of the Niagara Metros of the Central
Ontario "AAA" Major Baseball League. Since 1985, we've been the home for Elite Senior baseball in
the Niagara region.
If there's one thing that the St. Catharines
Metros are very proud of, its their tournament - The Hap Walters Memorial Baseball Challenge. Thanks to the outstanding
teams that participate in it every year, this tourney has become one of the top events on the Senior baseball calendar each
season.
We're hoping that 2007 is no different,
even though we've had to make a change in the weekend, due to the change in the Elimination Tournament timing for this year.
All of the details are now finalized and
posted on this website. Please click on the "Hap Walters Tourney" link (to the left of this page) to get all the info.
The St. Catharines Metros got their 2007
campaign off and running, last night, with their annual start-up meeting. The team talked about which tournaments they'd be
attending, registration and fundraising, uniforms and equipment, the schedule, and other concerns and much discussion ensued.
There was a lot of fun and the Metros did get a lot accomplished. It was good to get the season off on such a positive
note. Two things of importance were announced that must be mentioned here:
1. Outfielder - 1st Baseman, Todd Erskine,
citing impending nuptials and new house buying as invading a lot of his free time this summer, has decided to take the year
off from playing. But he has decided to stay on board in another capacity. Todd has accepted the post of First-base
coach for the 2007 season and possibly beyond. Todd's background in baseball, as well as his experience in the C.O.B.A
Major League make him an ideal candidate to fill this important role. In addition, Todd has vast coaching knowledge
from his work as heach coach of the Brock Ladies Hockey team. The Metros would like to thank Mr. Erskine for taking on this job and welcome him to the ranks of the C.O.B.A.
"coaching fraternity".
2. The Metros announced that their
2007 Indoor Practice schedule begins next week. The first "indoor" is scheduled for Tuesday, February 27th and will
run every Tuesday night until the weather breaks and the practices are moved outside. The indoor workouts are at Thorold
High School (rear entance), beginning at 6:30 and running until 8:30.
Any players with recent baseball experience,
over the age of 21, are invited to attend these workouts. Gloves and running shoes are the minimum requirements.
Well, it's coming up to mid-February...time
to scrape off the rust and get the arms and legs moving, again. The 2007 Metros Baseball season gets underway on Monday,
February 19th with our annual start-up meeting. This is when the coaching staff and returning players (as well as any
potential new players) get together and go over some of the changes and pertinent information they need to know for this year.
Some of what is covered concerns 1. changes
to the league format, playoffs and schedule 2. what tournaments we'll be attending this season 3. finances and fundraising
4. changes in personel 5. our new uniforms and 6. indoor workouts.
The meeting will take place Monday, February
19th at the Celtic Club, 16 Secord Dr. (near Lake and Scott) in St. Catharines. Starting time is 7:30 and there will
be light snacks and refreshments available.
All returning players (with the exception
of those playing college ball in the U.S., of course) are asked to attend. Also, any potential new players are urged
to come out so we can meet you and find out more about you.
Speaking of college ball in the U.S.,
if you go to the links page of this website, and click on the Charleston Southern University link (near the bottom of the
page) you'll find that the Buccaneers opened their 2007 College baseball schedule with a 7-2 win over Savannah State University.
In that game, the Metros' T.J. Green pitched the final 3 innings to earn his first college save. The 20 year-old
sophomore allowed one earned run on 3 hits, while walking one and striking out 2. Way to go, T.J.!

Niagara Metros Bi-Weekly "Baseball Film
Feature"
.
This
week, on our "Baseball Film Feature" section, we have found a little gem that will make any "true ballplayer"
chuckle. It's a hilarious "home-made" film by what looks like a group of U.S. College ballplayers with a great
idea about how we talk about the game we love, but in a language that only we can understand. Check out this video,
and count how many baseball euphamisms you're guilty of saying or doing when your "at the yard". It's a little
3 minute masterpiece entitled "Shit Ballplayers Say". And believe us when we say, "These guys can really
bring the chedd..."

Metros Archive Section!
You will see the history of
our team, as well as the past glories of St. Catharines Senior Baseball in words and pictures dating back to the 1940's.
