THE UPCOMING WEEK
The St. Catharines Metros begin a busy
2-week run on Thursday night at Community Park, when Metros host the 1st place Dundas Chiefs at 7:30. The Chiefs are
the only COBA Major team that hasn't lost yet, as they've posted a 6-0-1 record. The Metros are 4-2.
After Thursday's home game, the team takes
to the road for about a week or so, beginning with a double dip in Brampton on Saturday. The first game will begin at
12:00 noon. After that, it's a trip to Oakville on Monday night to play the (very much improved) A's at 7:30.
Then, after a Thursday night practice, the Metros travel to Oshawa for the first annual Oshawa Royals Invitational tourney.
More on that next week.
By the way, we have posted some new pictures
on the website from our first few games of the 2007 season. Please click on the "Photo Album" link to the left of this

METROS' BATS EXPLODE IN MILTON
The St. Catharines Metros have been swinging
the bats pretty well, lately. To say the least! The Metros (who had trouble scoring runs earlier this season),
collected 18 hits, including 5 home runs, yesterday in Milton, to win 16-5 in a mercy-shortened 8 inning game. Jonathan
Paul led off the game with his first of 2 HR's and they were off to the races, scoring 5 in the first. St. Catharines
added 9 more runs in the 5th inning to take a 14-0 lead, before Milton scored their 5 runs in the 7th. The Metros, however,
salted the game away with 2 more home runs in the 8th to make the final 16-5.
The beneficiary of all the run support
was starting pitcher, Jason Ermers, who won his 1st game of the young season. Ermers went 6 innings and allowed 0 runs
and 4 hits. He walked 2 while striking out 7. Newcomer, Dan Estey threw his first innings of the season in relief
and allowed the 5 Milton runs (although none were earned) on 3 hits and 4 walks. He struck out 2.
As mentioned, Jonathan Paul hit 2 HR's
and added a double to lead the Metros. Andrew Sorochan homered and added 2 doubles, while Rocco Spano had an RBI single
and a Grand Slam home run, for 5 RBI's on the day. Brad Namtzu added 3 singles and 3 RBI's, while Jono Marcheterre and
Justin Czorny collected 2 hits each. Tommi Paugh also homered while Joe Roach and Mike Mannella added singles,
as every member of the Metros' lineup had at least one hit. Adam Ahearn took the loss on the mound, while Curt
Davies had a couple of hits for Milton.
The St. Catharines win improves their
record to 4-2, while Milton drops to 3-5. Next up for the Metros...a home game on Thursday, May 31 against the Johnson
Division leading Dundas Chiefs. Game time at Community Park is 7:30.

METROS COME UP BIG AGAINST RANGERS
The St. Catharines Metros played perhaps
their best game in a couple of years, last night, as they defeated the always tough Etobicoke Rangers 11-3, in St. Catharines.
The Metros rode the outstanding pitching of veteran Brian Essery and backed him with a flawless game in the field (their 4th
in 5 games), and 13 hits. Essery went 7 innings and allowed one run on 6 hits and 0 walks, while striking out 7.
Dustin Turner pitched the final 2 innings and allowed 2 runs on 1 hit and 4 walks, while striking out 2.
The Rangers led 1-0 after 2, but the Metros
struck for 2 in the 3rd, 1 in the 4th and 2 in the 5th to take a 5-1 lead. They carried that lead to the 8th, when the
Rangers narrowed the gap to 5-3, before St. Catharines erupted for 6 in the bottom of the 8th to win going away. Andrew
Sorochan led the offence for the Metros with a double and 2 singles with 2 RBI's. Rocco Spano added 3 hits and 2 RBI's
while Tim Collins and Justin Czorny added 2 singles each. Jono Marcheterre added a 2-run single while Joe Roach doubled
and Brad Namtzu singled. Warren Bradley and Todd Riverso had 2 hits each for Etobicoke while Mike Janes took the loss
on the mound.
The Etobicoke loss leaves their record
at 5-2 on the young season, while the Metros improved to 3-2. Next up for St. Catharines - they take to the road on
Saturday, for a 1:30 game in Milton, before returning home next Thursday for a matchup with the first place Dundas Chiefs.
Game time for that one, at Community Park, is 7:30.

THE UPCOMING WEEK
The St. Catharines Metros have a couple
of big games coming up this week...against some very tough competition. First up, on Thursday, The Metros will host
the Etobicoke Rangers at 7:30 - Community Park. The Rangers are the defending league and playoff champions, and are
off to a great start again this year. Then on Saturday, St. Catharines takes on the Milton Red Sox in Milton.
The Red Sox are a young and rising team, who finished 3rd in the league last season and are 3-3, so far in 2007. Game
time in Milton is 1:30.
By the way, there are a couple of updates
and changes to the Metros 2007 schedule. Those changes are highlighted in yellow on our "2007 Schedule" page.

JOIN THE METROS FOR "HORSE RACE NIGHT"
The St. Catharines Metros are hosting
their first ever "horse race night" fundraiser at the Celtic Club this weekend. The Metros have a fun and entertaining
night planned where people can come to the club, enjoy a beverage or 2, and bet on the ponies. All the money raised
goes towards offsetting the high cost of operations for the 2007 Metros season. The team are looking for a good turnout,
and promise a great time for everyone who shows up. The Celtic Club is located on Secord Drive in St. Catharines and
the big night is tomorrow (Saturday, May 19th). The racing gets underway at about 9:00, but get there early...you won't
want to miss a minute of the action.

METROS WIN IN THE BOTTOM OF THE 9TH
Andrew Sorochan's 4th hit of the game
drove in the tying and winning runs in the 9th, last night, as the St. Catharines Metros upset the Erindale Cardinals 6-5
at Community Park. The game was played in the coldest conditions in recent memory, but both teams played a nearly flawless
and entertaining game. The Metros never led until the final inning as the Cards had control of the game throughout, holding a 5-2 lead after
5 innings. But St. Catharines chipped away with single runs in the 6th and 8th, before their 9th inning uprising.
The winning pitcher was Jason Pilkington,
who was making his first appearance of the year, in relief of starter Jason Ermers (also making his first start). Ermers
went 5 innings and allowed 5 runs (3 earned) on 7 hits while striking out 3. Pilkington went the final 4, and allowed
0 runs, 0 hits and struck out 7. Mark Taplin, the 2nd of 3 Cardinal pitchers, took the loss.
As mentioned, Andrew Sorochan had a big
night at the plate for St. Catharines, hitting a home run, double and 2 singles, driving in 3. Jono Marcheterre added
3 hits for the Metros, while Jonathan Paul collected a double and single. Tim Collins and Rocco Spano chipped in
with a single each, while Joe Roach, Jamie Robertson and Brad Namtzu had RBI's. Kevin Trechial had a 2-run double for
Erindale.
The Metros, with the win, improve to 2-2
while the Cardinals suffered their first loss after 4 wins, on the young season. St. Catharines is off for a week, now,
and host the Etobicoke Rangers next Thursday night at Community Park. Game time for that one is 7:30.

STRANDED RUNNERS COST METROS
The St. Catharines Metros outhit the Glanbrook
Grizzlies 9-7 but could only come up with two of them with men in scoring position. The result was a 6-3 victory for
the Grizzlies. Glanbrook, on the other hand, made the most of their few opportunities to score, collecting 3 RBI hits
in the first inning, one in the 3rd and one more in the 4th for all the run support their pitching staff would need.
The winner was starter, Andrew Page...while
Jonathan Paul took the loss for St. Catharines. Paul went 4 innings, allowing 5 hits and 5 walks while striking out
6. The Metros 3 relievers, Ryan Villers, Dustin Turner and Eric DeBoer combined to allow 1 run on 2 hits and 2 walks
while striking out 5. Jamie Robertson collected 3 singles to lead the way offensively for St. Catharines. Rocco
Spano collected a pair of RBI singles while Tim Collins, Justin Czorny, Jono Marcheterre and Mike Mannella (in his first game
after a year-long hiatus) chipped in with singles.
The Metros, with the loss, drop to 1-2
on the young season, while the Grizz improve to 2-1-1. Next up for St. Catharines is a date with the 4-0 Erindale Cardinals
on Thursday night. Game time at Community Park is 7:30.

BIG 5TH INNING FOR DUNDAS
The Dundas Chiefs sent 11 men to the plate
in the 5th inning and scored 6 times, as the much-improved Dundas Chiefs knocked off the St. Catharines Metros 7-3.
The damage came against losing pitcher Jason Rabjohn who pitched in relief of starter, Brian Essery. Essery allowed
1 run on 3 hits while striking out 4 in his 4 innings, while Rabjohn gave up 6 runs on 7 hits in his 4 innings. He struck
out 2. The Metros scored one in the 2nd and 2 in the 3rd, to hold a 3-0 lead, before the Dundas uprising in the 5th.
The winning pitcher was starter Mike Goldsmith.
Offensively the Metros' 10 hit attack
was led by newcomer, Tim Collins who had 3. Jono Marcheterre and Brad Namtzu added a pair of singles each, while
Rocco Spano added an RBI double. Justin Czorny and Jonathan Paul chipped in with a single each and Andrew Sorochan had
an RBI Sac Fly.
The win extends Dundas record to 3-0 on
the young season, while the Metros suffered their first loss after an opening day win. St. Catharines now has the weekend

METROS / MISSISSAUGA - POSTPONED
The St. Catharines Metros game against
the fledgling Mississauga North Tigers was forced to be postponed last night in St. Catharines. Metros G.M., Mark Walters,

opener. The game will be played at a later date.
Meanwhile, St. Catharines is preparing
to take to the road, this evening, to play the Dundas Chiefs. The Chiefs have won both of their games in this
young season while the Metros have won their only game to this point.

METROS OPEN 2007 WITH A WIN
The St. Catharines Metros got their 2007 started on the right foot by downing the always tough Burlington Brants
7-3 in Clarkson. Both teams showed signs of rustiness , especially in the pitching department, with 19 walks issued
in the game (11 by Burlington and 8 by St. Catharines). On the positive side, neither team made an error.
The
winning pitcher for the Metros was Jonathan Paul, who went 3 innings and allowed 0 runs on 0 hits while walking 3 and striking
out 4. Brian Essery, Jason Rabjohn, Ryan Villers and Jamie Robertson also pitched for St. Catharines, giving up 3 runs

SET TO GO!
Ready or not...here we go! The St.
Catharines Metros have one more practice (Thursday night - 6:00) and then its off to the races. The season begins Saturday
in Clarkson, as the Metros take on their long-time Johnson Division rivals, the Burlington Brants, in a 2:30 start.
The Metros (as well as all of the other teams in C.O.B.A., we're sure) were somewhat hampered by the huge amounts of
rain we received over the last couple of weeks, and were only able to get 3 outdoor practices in. But, the team has
been working in the gym since February and feel that they're ready to give it a go. The Metros will use 5 pitchers on
Saturday in and effort to get everyone's feet wet and to not overuse any one pitcher this early in the season. Righthander
Jonathan Paul is set to get the start.
There are still a couple of roster decisions
to be made, but the team is pretty well set...and it looks as though there will be at least a couple of new players on the
team in 2007. We'll bring you up to date on the additions (and the non-returnees) next week. The Metros will open
the "Home" portion of their season on Thursday, May 10 at Community Park, against the expansion Mississauga North Tigers.
Game time for that one is 7:30. By the way, all of the game summaries will be available on this website beginning with
Saturday's game. Click on Game Reports to the left of this page.
