The home of Metros GM, Mark Walters was,
once again, the site for Metros Christmas 2007...and like it is every year, the party was a rousing success. Mom Walters
put out a fantastic spread for the boys and girls, and there was a lot of fun, great conversation, reminiscing, laughter,
and yes...even a few tears.
The Metros handed out their 2007 team
awards during the event, and everyone left the night with a little "gift of recognition" for their 2007 season. Below,
you'll find a list of the 2007 Metros Award recipients...
Metros' Most Valuable Player (voted
on by the players at the end of the season) - Jono Marcheterre
Metros' Top Pitcher (for
the 6th time...also C.O.B.A. Major League Top Pitcher) - Brian Essery
Metros' Top Rookie (with
a 4-1 record and a 2.49 E.R.A. in 47 innings) - Ian Horner
Metros' Most Improved Player (increased
his B.A. from .275 in 2006 to .404 in 2007) - Jonathan Paul
Metros' Top Defensive Player (Played
2B, SS, 3B and made just 6 errors in 38 games, for a .951 F.A.) - Tim Collins
Metros' Top Offensive Player (Tie
between the 2 players that dominated all the offensive stats) - Joe Roach and Andrew Sorochan
Metros' Coaches Award (to
the player that contributes (on the field and off) in terms of leadership, sportsmanship, heart and desire, overall team contribution)
- Brad Namtzu
Congratulations to all the winners...you
worked hard for these accolades and they are well-deserved.

MAY YOU ENJOY THE BEST OF HOLIDAY SEASONS
On this Christmas Eve, we thought we'd
take a few column inches to wish you all the brightest Christmas ever! Everyone in this great country of Canada
has so much to be thankful for...and this is a great time to remember that fact.
So to bring that to light, we thought
we'd like to say "Seasons Greetings" to the following people...you all mean so much to the St. Catharines Metros, and especially
to me, your webmaster, Mark Walters.
To the rest of the teams in Ontario and
especially to those in our own C.O.B.A. Major Baseball League.
To our sponsors...our door prize contributors,
our silent gift donators, and our major team sponsor, Nokona Sports.
To the fans, who come out every Thursday
night from May to August to watch and support us.
To all the Metros players...(see you on
the 29th for another Metros Christmas extravaganza).
To the families of all the Metros...the
wives, the kids, the parents, the grand-parents, the brothers and sisters.
To the umpires who do such a great job
at our games.
To the City of St. Catharines Parks Department
and all the guys and girls who put in the hours at Community Park.
To the newspapers and radio stations who
promote our team and our games.
To everyone associated with Senior baseball
in Ontario.
and last, but not least...to my wife Debbie...
...have the happiest, merriest, and brightest
of Christmases.
And be smart over this holiday season!
We want to be wishing you Merry Christmas for many years to come.

TOP PERFORMANCES OF 2007 - PART 2
After, last week, taking a look back at
the best offensive performances of 2007 Metros season, we'll continue on. This week we're studying the Top 10 Pitching
performances from the Metros staff from the summer of '07. Here they are:
10.
July 29 - vs. Essex - Jason Rabjohn - 7 Inn., 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB,
3 K
9.
July 28 - vs. Woodslee - Ian Horner - 7 Inn., 3 H, 1 ER, 3
BB, 8 K
(5 Inn. no-hitter)
8.
Aug. 14 - vs. Glanbrook - Dustin Turner - 7 Inn., 6 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 10 K
7.
Aug. 2 - vs. Erindale - Jason Ermers - 7 Inn., 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 K
6.
May 24 - vs. Etobicoke - Brian Essery - 7 Inn., 6 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 7 K
5.
June 18 - vs. Erindale - Jason Ermers - 8 Inn., 7 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 16 K
4.
July 19 - vs. Milton - Dustin Turner - 7 Inn., 3 H, 1 UER, 1 BB, 8 k

2.
May 31 - vs. Dundas - Jonathan Paul - 7 Inn., 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 8 K
1.
July 29 - vs. Simcoe County - Brian Essery - 8 Inn., 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7
K
(6 Inn. no-hitter)
We'd like to mention 3 other
performances that just missed our Top 10 but are, none the less, very impressive.
On June 23, the Metros swept
Mississauga North 10-0 and 10-0 with Brian Essery and Dustin Turner both throwing 2-hit shutouts. The reason they didn't
make the Top 10 is because the league mercy rule kicked in and both games only went 5 innings.
The other game featured an
awesome performance by Jason Ermers as he outdueled John Picco of the powerful Woodslee Orioles 3-2 on June 9. Ermers
went 6 1/3 Inn., and allowed 6 hits, 2 ER, and 3 BB while striking out 6...just missing the Top 10.
AND ANOTHER THING...
We have posted a new baseball
movie clip in the Showcase Film area, at the bottom of the page. For the next two weeks we'll be featuring one of the
most memorable baseball movie scenes ever...and one of the best! We still get chills! Its from the 1984 classic, "The
Natural".

DECEMBER TREAT
Welcome to December. In honour of
one of our favourite times of year, we've got a special treat for you.
A lot of our younger visitors to the website
may not be familiar with the baseball film clip we're featuring in the Dec. 3 to 17 "Showcase Film" segment. Or maybe you're familiar
with it but have never seen it. Or maybe you've seen it, but love it so much (like we do) that you just have to see
it again.
Our featured film clip is perhaps
the most famous film clip in baseball hsitory. It's been featured in movies, in stand up routines, TV commercials...in
basically every conversation about baseball, since it was first seen in the movie "The Naughty Nineties" in 1945. In
fact, this piece of movie history had such a huge impact, it is featured in a special exhibit in the Baseball
Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, NY.
Scroll to the bottom of this page and
press "play" to see Bud Abbott and Lou Costello...and find out "Who's on First?"
