SOME REALLY JOYOUS NEWS!
As hinted at last week, we have some great
news from the social side of the Metros, to share with you.
Congratulations to
former Metros' standout infielder, Tommi Paugh and brand new wife Tracey, who tied the knot on Saturday, October 11. Many
current and former Metros made it to Smithville for the wedding and then Grimsby for the celebration. The couple
got a perfect day, the ceremony and reception were awesome, and the happy couple were handsome / beautiful, as always.
Once again Tommi and Tracey, congrats...the Metros couldn't be happier for you.
And if that "feel good" story wasn't
enough...we have another one to add. Metros field manager, Kerry Hedden and his wife Sandi are very proud
to announce the birth of their familiy's newest "team member". Kaylee Alexandra Graves was born on September
15 2008 at 7:23 A.M. Kaylee weighed in at a healthy 9 lbs. 1 oz. and was born 20 inches in length.
Proud parents are Jacob Graves (Kerry and Sandi's son) and Erin Mulvihill. Of course, it goes without saying that the Metros are extremely happy and proud of
the Heddens and their new addition.
NEW
FEATURE FILM
Are you in the mood for a really good
laugh? Its been a while since we've featured something really funny on our Metros Baseball Film Feature, but that's
what we have this time.
Without giving too much away...what do
you get when you combine New York baseball fans, the grandstand surroundings at a Major League game, and lots of alcohol?
You get our 9 minute webcam feature...proof positive that its always more fun to go to the game than staying home
and watching on TV.
Just scroll to the bottom of this page
and press "Play". Talk to you next week.

THIS AND THAT...
We have a few things to get you caught
up on this week. Hard to believe that, as we approach the end of October, there's still a lot of stuff going on...but
that's the deal when you are associated with a team and league like the Metros and C.O.B.A.
1. The Metros held their year-end
meeting, last night at the Thorold Legion. It was a very positive night, with the theme of "let's keep building on what
we've started" being the main sentiment. The team has dedicated themselves to keeping in shape during the off-season,
and come to the gym and park next spring with re-newed focus and dedication. It was great to see everyone again, and
we look forward to meeting again, at the COBA banquet on November 13.
2. The boys came up with a couple
of excellent fundraising ideas at the meeting...which we'll begin working on almost immediately. We'll be putting
together a committee to organize and host at least one golf tournament next year. The details are not ironed out yet,
but when they are, we'll bring you up to date. And to help commemorate the Metros' 25th Anniversary next season, the
team has decided to produce a small line of apparel (hoodies, T-shirts, etc) with our logo and a reference to our 25th
anniversary. These items will be available at all of our home games...as well as a special "Hap" Walters Tournament
T-Shirt, which will be available leading up to the tourney, in July. Of course, all money raised from the sale of these
items will help offset our rising operational costs.
3. Good news and bad news this past
week for Metros' lefty Jason Ermers, pitching for Brock University. First, the bad news. The Badgers were
stymied in their attempt to win the O.U.A. Baseball Championship by McMaster, losing 4-3 on Friday night, and 2-1 on
Saturday. They were two very disappointing losses, as the Badgers could just not mount much offense, and made some key
mistakes...leading to runs for Mac. Now the good news. Ermers was simply awesome in his start on Friday night.
Despite taking the loss, Jason threw 6 2/3 innings, and left the game with the lead. He carried a no-hitter into
the 7th (it was actually a bunt single leading off the 7th that broke up the no-hit attempt) and started the trouble for the
Badgers. Erms' amazing final stats line read: 15 strikeouts (a new OUA Playoff record), including 6 in a row, 3
hits, 3 walks and 2 earned runs. Those of us were at the game (along with the 800 or so Brock supporters) all agreed
that Jason looked like a "man among boys".
4. We are currently in the
process of updating the Archive portion of our website, here at metrosbaseball.ca. Its been a couple of years,
since we've added any new material to our "New Millenium" pages...the section of the website dedicated to the Metros
teams and players that were active during the decade of the 2000's. We've added some of our recent retirees to our "Alumnis"
page (which can be viewed through this link) and some new pictures to our "Photos and Memories" page (which can
be seen by clicking here). We will continue to update our Archive site, all winter long.
5. As we mentioned earlier, next
year is the St. Catharines Metros' 25th Anniversary, and we are presently working on a few exciting things, here at the
website. The first of which is a "history of the Metros" in pictures. As you can imagine, we've had a lot
of photos taken of us, over the years...and we're going to try to tell our history through them. We're in the process
of re-mastering some of the old newspaper photos from years gone by, trying to spruce them up and bring them back to
life. And we're also asking for your help in acquiring more photos to complete this project. If you have any
old photos or snapshots of the Metros (preferably action shots) we'd like to borrow them to scan, and put into the collection.
We are especially interested in photos from 1991 to 1997, as there are not a lot of photos in our archive from that era.
If you have some of these photos in your personal collection, please contact us, and we'll get them included in this exciting
project. Look for the "Metros History in Pictures", sometime in the new year.
6. Looking ahead...we
have a couple of social events to bring you up to date on...namely a wedding and a birth. Look for those updates
next week, at metrosbaseball.ca. Talk to ya' then...

METROS' C.O.B.A. MAJOR LEAGUE AWARD NOMINEES
Well, after a short, but regenerating
trip up north, its time to get back to business. At least, its time to get back to the business of the St. Catharines
Metros, and the C.O.B.A. Major Baseball League. There are a couple of things we have to bring you up to date on, since
the last time we got together.
The C.O.B.A. Major Baseball

be handed out at the banquet, next month. We are pleased to announce that the Metros have some serious representation

A COUPLE MORE THINGS...
The St. Catharines Metros are holding
their annual year-end players meeting on Monday, October 20...at the Branch 17, Royal Canadian Legion, in Thorold. The
team hosts this meeting anually, as a last get- together for the '08 season, to discuss the past season, and how to improve
things, both on and off the field. What went right and what went wrong, from a players standpoint? We hope that
all of the players that are still in the area for the fall/winter season will be available to attend. The meeting gets
underway at 7:30, and is, once again, at the Thorold Legion, 3 Ormond Street. For directions to the Legion (from Community
Park), click this link.
Finally, we have added a new Feature Film
clip to the website. Its a slide show, featuring some great still photos from the 2008 MLB season. It's really
well done, and reminds us all of what we love about our favourite sport.
Talk to you next week.

BACK FROM HOLIDAYS
Well, sorry about that gang...
Apparently, we failed to mention
that we were shutting down the website for a week, while we took a little (well-deserved) vacation time in the Kawarthas.
Those involved with summer baseball know that the fall is the best time to get away, as spring is too damn cold, and summer
is too damn busy. Unfortunately, fall vacations are too damn short!
Having said that, we just wanted
to let you know that we're back, and we'll be updating the website early next week. We have a number of things to bring
you up to date on, including the nominees for the C.O.B.A. Major Baseball League year-end awards. There are a few
Metros among the finalists! In the meantime...a very happy Thanksgiving weekend to you and yours! Talk to you
next week.
