FINAL LOOK BACK AT 2010 - PART 2
As we began last week, we are taking one last
look back to 2010, by checking out the Niagara Metros' best one-game performances. This week we'll focus on the pitching
staff, as we present the Top 25 Pitching performances of the year.
The Metros have long been known as a team that
could pitch with the best of 'em. And 2010 was no exception. Niagara managed to put up a team ERA of 3.15...good
for 4th in the province (based on the best information that we could muster). The team also allowed just 276 hits in
331 innings (7.50 per 9 innings) and struck out a whopping 334 (9.08 per 9 innings). So, once again, the Metros pitchers
had a very strong season. But which performances stand out? The list below will tell you.
We're going to list the Top 25 single-game performances of the year from #25, right down to the best-pitched game by
a Metros' player, over the course of the season. Note that the rankings are based solely on the batting line of
the game in question, not the circumstances (importance of the game, opposing team, etc.) surrounding the game.
Here,
then, are the Top 25, from 2010:

This wraps up ou look back at 2010. We hope you enjoyed it. Next week we begin coverage of events happening
in 2011, as we recap the first C.O.M.B.L. Managers meeting of the season. Should be interesting!
NEW BASEBALL FILM FEATURE
We continue with our special "Baseball Film Feature"
and our "Best Of"
series. These are some of the films that we've run at some point over the past 3 years (the length of time that we've
been running the Baseball Film Feature), and have received a number of very positive comments and feedback on.
In short, these are our "Top 10" Baseball Films from the past, as selected by you...our visiting audience.
This week we feature a film
that was first posted to our showcase in October of 2007. It is the legendary "Who's on First"
bit from Abbott and Costello. This famous routine plays on a loop in the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown,
and has been an integral piece of baseball history since Bud and Lou unveiled it in 1945. One look will
explain it all...and if you've never seen it, you're in for a treat! Just scroll to the bottom of the page, press "Play", and enjoy!

FINAL LOOK BACK AT 2010
With the announcement, last week, of our taking
down some of the 2010 website information (by the end of the month) to make room for the 2011 season, we thought it would
be a good idea to spend a couple of weeks taking one last look back. So, for the next couple of weeks we'll
do just that...focusing on the Metros players, and their exploits. This week, we'll look at the Top 25 batting
performances of 2010. The Metros had one of their best offensive seasons
in recent memory in 2010, and led the C.O.M.B.L. in Runs scored for the first time in club history. So it was a very strong
season with the bat, and this list will actually confirm that fact. We're going to list the Top 25 single-game performances
of the year from #25, right down to the best offensive game by a Metros' player, over the course of the season.
Note that these rankings are based solely on the batting line of the game in question, not the circumstances (importance
of the game, opposing team, etc.) surrounding the game. So, without further adieu...here is the list of the great Metros batting

WELCOME TO 2011!!
Happy New Year, and welcome to 2011 here at MetrosBaseball.ca
Wow...it's hard to believe Christmas is over and we've moved into yet another year, and another year of Niagara Metros baseball.
2011 marks our 27th season as a Senior Baseball organization!
Overall we've played 1061 games in our franchise
history...that's a lot of nights at the ball park! And having won 646 of those games (against 415 losses, for a .609
winning percentage) we're very proud of our history, and our committment to excellence at the Senior level. We're
also very proud of the players that currently don the Metros' white and blue uniforms, and think that we could be moving toward
some very good seasons at Community Park.
In short, we're glad we're still here, and we're glad you're here to
check up on us, see how we're doing, and stay in touch with Senior Ball in southern Ontario. Once again welcome
to 2011.
WEBSITE UPDATES AND CHANGES
As part of our move into 2011, we'll be making some changes and updates here at the site, over the
next couple of weeks. By the end of January, we should have an updated "Front Page Design" on the home page,
and we'll making room for our new content, to reflect our new season. To do this we must begin to delete some of the
2010 information, on the various pages of our website.
So, consider this a heads up. Much of the 2010
information that appears on our "Schedule / Results", "Game Reports", "Hap Walters Tourney",
and "Photo Album" pages will be taken down in the next few weeks. Anyone wishing to get the information,
or check out the photos should do so by the end of the month.
NEW BASEBALL FILM FEATURE
Over the next few weeks on our "Baseball
Film Feature", we are going to run a "Best Of"
series. These are some of the films that we've run at some point over the past 3 years (the length of time that we've
been running the Baseball Film Feature), and have received a number of very positive comments and feedback on.
In short, these are our "Top 10" Baseball Films from the past, as selected by you...our visiting audience.
Our first film is
back by popular demand, from our showcase in March of 2008. It features the late, great standup comic George Carlin,
in one of his best pieces from his legandary standup act. In it, he compares the games of Baseball and Football.
And although they are both considered the National Pastimes in the U.S., the two sports couldn't be more different.
According to Carlin, Baseball and Football (hilariously) don't have too much in common at all. Just press "Play", and enjoy!

METROS CHRISTMAS BASH - ANOTHER ROUSING SUCCESS
The Niagara Metros held their annual Christmas Bash last
week, and although the crowd was a little lighter than usual, everyone that showed up had a great time. The team handed
out it's year-end awards, and then everyone received a beautiful "gift" that was especially made for them.
The guys (and girls) also enjoyed a great meal (courtesy of Metros matriarch, Mom Walters), a few drinks, and a lot of laughs.
All in all, it was once again a wonderful night. Hopefully next year, the date will be more player-friendly and we'll
get our usual turnout of 45 or so people. We have posted a few pictures from the festivities in our "Photo
Album" for you to enjoy. Please do so. Just click "Photo Album" on the left of the page, and scroll
to the bottom.
As mentioned, we handed out our Year-end Metros team awards for 2010. The Metros have been presenting
these awards for 26 years, and the list of winners is a "Who's Who" of Metros baseball history. And the following
players have joined the prestigious lists...
Metros Most Valuable Player 2010 - Dave
Davidson Metros Top Pitcher 2010 - Dustin Turner Metros Rookie of the Year 2010
- Matt Spillman Metros Top Offensive Player 2010 - Dave Davidson Metros Top Defensive Player 2010 - Matt Spillman Metros Most Improved Player 2010
- Chris Magarian Metros Coaches Award Winner 2010 (for work ethic, dedication, leadership,
sportsmanship) - Daniel Proctor
By the way, to see the impressive lists of previous
winners of these awards (from 1985 to 2010), click this link.
Congratulations to all the winners, and to all the folks who made it to the party...thanks. To those who
didn't, and to the rest of Ontario and the baseball community in general...Happy New Year. Talk to you next week.
