NIAGARA METROS "AAA" MAJOR BASEBALL CLUB 2011

The 2011 Hap Walters Memorial Tournament

The 2011 Hap Walters Memorial Tournament was another unqualified success for the C.O.M.B.L. The baseball being exhibited was incredible, the weather was perfect (if not a little hot), and the tournament committee did a marvelous job putting this massive (20 teams) tourney together, and pulling it off without a hitch.

The Windsor Stars defeated the Oakville A's in the tournament finals, to win their 3rd straight Hap Walters Tourney title. Congratulations go to the Stars...and to the A's for representing our league so well. Their 4-3 victory over Thornhill in the semi-finals was a great ball game, played by two very good teams.

The Niagara Metros, the former hosts of this tournament, would like to thank many people for their help in putting this tourney together, and for their hard work during the long, hot weekend.

Thanks go to C.O.B.A. and O.B.A. rep David Huctwith, who painstakingly put the tournament rules together and convened the tourney on the weekend.

To Greg Cranker and his crew for their hard work, not only maintaining the two 9th line parks (no easy task), but also for making sure that the folks attending the games at 9th line were always refreshed and fed. Thanks to all the guys and girls in the "Refreshment Garden".

Speaking of maintaing the parks, we'd like to thank all of the "venue host teams" for looking after the grounds at the various parks being used in the tourney. To Steve Breitner and the Etobicoke Rangers (Connorvale), Dave Smallhorn and the Oakville A's (Oakville Park), Bob Kulchyk and the Mississauga Twins (Clarkson Park), C.O.M.B.L. commisionner Glenn Turner for his work at 9th Line North, and the afore-mentioned Mr. Cranker and the Erindale Cardinals at E.C.F. (you should have seen dust-magnet Dan Estey on Sunday)...to all of you, "Thank You".

Also, thanks to the teams who helped out at the various venues...the Burlington Brants in Oakville, the Niagara Metros and Brampton Battlecats at 9th Line, the Milton Red Sox at Connorvale, and the Glanbrook Grizzlies in Clarkson. Thanks a lot guys.

Finally, we can't overlook the umpiring crews, who were very good this weekend. Thanks to Grant Zillioto and all the guys who call the "balls and strikes" for a great weekend of work.

Awesome weekend for all involved! Thanks a lot!
