Andrew Sorochan has, quite simply, been one of the
most consistent players on the Niagara Metros club, since his rookie season of 2004. In fact, his statistics over that
period would likely show that his production has been among the best in the entire COMBL. Originally from Newmarket
Ontario, Andrew moved to Toronto in his teens to play with the high profile elite program - the Ontario Blue Jays.
He played there for 3 seasons and became one of the top players in the system, garnering many tryouts from Major League Pro
camps, along the way. In 2000, at the still tender age of 19, Andrew came to St. Catharines to attend Brock University
and play ball for the highly ranked Badgers program. He starred there for 5 years, with the highlight season coming
in 2003, when he led the club in hitting and was named the Badgers' M.V.P. After two years with the Barrie Baycats of
the Intercounty Senior League, Andrew joined the Metros and has continued his impressive performance at the plate. In
his 8 years with the club, Mr. Sorochan has batted a tidy .314 over his 1145 P.A.'s. He has also clubbed 26
Home Runs and added 208 RBI's...to go with 66 doubles and 29 stolen bases. He now finds himself
in the Top 20 of 13 offensive lists, (and sits in 6th place in both HR's and RBI's) in the Metros All-Time stats.
The 2005 season was especially good to Andrew, as he batted .336 and led the C.O.B.A Major Baseball League in Home Runs with
6...to win the Andy Pierce Memorial Trophy. And the 31 year-old is continuing to maintain those high levels of offense.
Last year in 2011, the switch-hitting outfielder reminded everyone of his '05 season, as he came to the plate 138 times, and
matched his career high in HR's with 6. He also added 28 RBI's along with a .288 average. Andrew, who has matured into
a team leader and a veteran presence on a young team will, once again, be counted on to help anchor the batting order and
protect some of the other potent hitters in the middle of the Metros lineup.
